All sections have returned for an action-packed new year!
Cubs and Scouts should have received programmes at a section meeting, and these are also available in the members section of the website (please contact your section leader for access details).
We always have a lot of Scouting going on at the 9th North Watford, as we have an excellent and dedicated leadership and executive team – but we can always use more help! Please speak to a leader or committee member if you would like to get involved!
Christmas is a busy time at the 9th North Watford. Every year, we hold our Christmas Bazaar to raise some money for the group – this year we raised more than £400! We also attended a bag packing event at M&S in Watford, alongside the Guide Dogs, and raised another £300 – all of which will be put towards continuing to offer high quality Scouting and everyday adventures to our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.
The annual Carol Concert was again well-attended and each section performed a fantastic song or poem in …
The summer holidays are drawing to a close, which is always a disappointment. But even as school starts back up again, so does the scout group, after our summer holidays and a chance to prepare for the next year!
The Scouts are back on Friday 3rd September, and Beavers and Cubs are back on Monday 6th September – and a brand new term of scouting begins, jam packed with fun and adventures!
All of our Sections have now broken up for the summer holidays, as our Leaders all need a break and to prepare for the next year – after all, we’re all volunteers and give up our free time to be Leaders! We are also planning to do some work around the Scout Hut to improve the facilities.
But we’ll be back in just a few short weeks and straight back into providing Scouting for all of our Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts.
As usual, volunteers from the group went to Lees Wood to raise money for the group and so that we can continue to provide everyday adventures to our young people. We ran a number of games and sold bric-a-brac from our stall, and raised a fantastic £200 which we will put to very good use.

GSL Annual Report
Another successful year at the 9th, numbers have held firm and since the census in January, numbers have increased in all sections, well done to all.
The year started with St George’s Day parade, this time we led the parade and organised the church service, our theme was St George and the growth of the Scout Movement since the beginning. The service was very well received and we had very favourable comments on its content. Thanks to the leadership team for all their efforts in making …
This year, we are collecting “Tesco for Schools and Clubs” vouchers as well as Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers.
If you shop in Tesco’s, or know someone who does, you can bring in the Schools and Clubs vouchers and we can use them to help us improve the quality of Scouting that we provide.
This is the first year that we have collected these vouchers – let’s see how well we can do!
Last weekend, three Scouts from the 9th North Watford took part in the Watford North District Night Owls competition. This is an annual night-time competition and involves navigation, hiking, and Scouting skills knowledge.
The three Scouts which took part were new Scouts and took part as a training team (with the help of some Explorer Scouts). Out of the fourteen teams which took part in the competition, the number of points they earned placed them fifth – a great result!
Each year, Sainsbury’s gives away Active Kids vouchers, and Scout groups like us can use them to get equipment.
If you shop in Sainsbury’s, or know someone who does, you can bring in the Active Kids vouchers and we can use them to help us improve the quality of Scouting that we provide. We have done very well the last two years, but let’s see if this year can be a record breaker!
On Saturday 6th March, the 9th North Watford Beavers, Cubs and Scouts took part in the Watford North District Swimming Gala. After a fantastic series of races which included a large amount of cheering – the final results were:

Well done to all the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who took part – including our Group Chairman Jonathan Hawes who won the Male Scouters race.
