Triathlon Sponsorship

Scouting is a charity, and great scouting requires sufficient funds – to run camps, purchase equipment, provide badges and so on – in particular, with our HQ needing maintenance.

A team of current and former members of the Group is running the London Triathlon (Olympic distance) as a relay team on Saturday 8 August 2015:

  • 1.5k swim (Jonathan Hawes, Group Chairman)
  • 40km bike (Steve Hawes, former Beaver, Cub and Scout at the 9th)
  • 10k run (Chris Hawes, Assistant Scout Leader)
  • If you would like to sponsor us, either see a Leader at the Hut or you can donate online.

The Hawes family put themselves through this ordeal on one of the hottest days of the year for the benefit of their local Scout Group. Despite the heat on the day, they completed the course in a time of 03:02:34, and were 227nd in the Team Olympic results out of over 400 teams.

Becky Ellis, Group Scout Leader at the 9th North Watford, said: “Scouting is a charity, and great scouting requires sufficient funds – to run camps, purchase equipment, provide badges and so on – in particular, with our HQ needing maintenance. Jonathan, Steve and Chris ran a fantastic race and all of us at the 9th are proud of them, and will put the money they raised to good use in the Group and local community.”
